SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Officials are trying to figure out how a man died after his body was found in the American River.

Around 4:35 p.m., Sacramento firefighters along with Sacramento County park rangers were dispatched to the American River near Highway 160 and Northgate Boulevard. The caller reported seeing a body floating down the river.

When firefighters arrived, they quickly found an adult male’s body floating near the river’s edge close to the Highway 160 bridge.

Firefighters loaded and transported the body by boat to Discovery Park where the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was waiting. The Coroner’s Office took possession of the body and will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause-of-death.

The name of the victim will be released by the Coroner once notification to the next-of-kin has been completed.
