FAIR OAKS, Calif. – A vehicle crashed into and knocked over an electricity pole Sunday evening in Fair Oaks.

At 8:30 Sunday evening, law enforcement and paramedics responded for a reported vehicle collision into a power pole on Hazel Avenue near Bedford Avenue.

When authorities arrived, they found a single vehicle which had crashed into a SMUD-owned power pole. The force of the impact caused the power pole to fall over, with the active power lines falling onto the car and sparking.

The driver was able to get out of the car safely before authorities arrived.

SMUD responded to isolate the power lines. Per the SMUD website, only one customer was affected by the power pole falling, although more customers may have their power temporarily disconnected while crews repair the damaged pole.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. The driver will be tested by a toxicologist to rule out alcohol or drugs.
