SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Police are investigating an overnight homicide in south Sacramento.

Just after 11:20 Friday night, Sacramento police officers responded to a residence on the 8800 block of Grandstaff Drive in south Sacramento for a reported burglary in progress.

When officers arrived, they located the female victim complainant outside the residence. Inside the residence, officers found an unresponsive male adult lying on the floor. Paramedics responded to the location and pronounced the male victim deceased.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators later arrived to the scene to collect evidence and canvass the surrounding neighborhood.

This investigation was ongoing through early Saturday afternoon. The investigating is still considered active and no arrests have been made. Although a specific motive has not been established, detectives do not believe this is a random incident. Detectives are asking for the community’s help in providing any information regarding this incident.

The identity of the deceased victim was later released as 60-year-old Ashok Kumar, of Sacramento.
