Suspicious Grass Fires Along I-80 Determined To Be Arson

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. – Fire investigators are looking for the person who set a series of grass fires along a busy freeway Thursday.

Just before 4:30 Thursday afternoon, firefighters responded to eastbound Interstate 80 near Madison Avenue for reports of a fire.

Firefighters arrived and found multiple grass fires working along the freeway. Multiple fire engines and a fire helicopter have been brought in to fight the fires. The fires were contained to vegetation and fences only, no structures.

The fires caused a major backup on Interstate 80 as commuters were heading home for the day.

Fire investigators later determined the fires to be arson. Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Fire at 916-859-3775 or e-mail [email protected] .
