SWAT operation in Galt ends in possible murder suicide

GALT, CA – Galt Police are investigating the deaths of both a male and female inside a residence in the 700 block of Lyonia Drive in northern Galt.

Police say earlier on Saturday they received a call from the daughter of the female inside the residence. The daughter told police that she received a call from her mother inside the Lyonia Drive residence that her mother’s boyfriend was deceased and that the mother was going to commit suicide.

When Galt Police responded to the residence and contacted the female subject inside the residence by telephone, a single gunshot could be heard from inside. Due to the circumstances surrounding the call, police activated the combined Elk Grove/Galt SWAT unit to respond.

SWAT units arrived on scene and activated a robot resource to go inside the residence and search for anyone inside and to clear the interior for scene safety. After some searching with the robot, the police had accounted for both the male and female subjects, both of whom were pronounced dead on scene after police and medics made entry. The connection between the two subjects are believed to be that of a boyfriend and girlfriend. The ages of the individuals are believed to be in their 50’s.

Galt Police detectives are currently investigating the incident and expect to remain on scene for a few hours.

Residents in the immediate area were asked to stay out of the area as the operation was occurring.

Sacramento County Animal Services responded for a dog that was inside the residence.

Update 11:58 AM Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015 Sacramento County Coroner has identified the male subject as Ray Allen Saiter, 68, of Galt.

Update 9:41 PM Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015 Sacramento County Coroner has identified the female subject as Kimberly Ann Weigant, 54, of Galt.
