The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Child Abuse Detectives have made an arrest in connection with the homicide of 2-year old William Philyaw.

On November 4, 2013, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2900 block of Watt Avenue in response to a 2-year old child who was not breathing. It was determined that the mother had left the child in the care of another while she was away from the residence. On November 7, 2013, the Sacramento Coroner’s Office determined the cause of the child’s death to be blunt abdominal injury.

Further investigations by Child Abuse Detectives have determined that the actions of the caretaker, Samuel Quinn Crutchor, have resulted in the death of this 2-year old child.

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s office issued an arrest warrant for 30 year old Samuel Crutchor, on murder and felony assault resulting in the death of a child. Samuel Crutchor was arrested yesterday (January 14, 2014) by Sheriff’s Child Abuse Detectives and booked into the Sacramento County Jail. He is currently being held without the possibility of bail.
