SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A woman was pronounced dead following a shooting late Wednesday night in Sacramento, according to local police. Officers were called to the scene on the 900 block of Florin Road at approximately 11:17 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered an adult female suffering from what appeared to be life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital by the Sacramento Fire Department, where she later succumbed to her injuries, despite medical personnel's efforts to save her.

The Sacramento Police Department has launched a homicide investigation into the incident, with detectives and crime scene investigators taking charge. They are currently processing the scene, canvassing the neighborhood, and conducting witness interviews in an effort to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin have been duly notified.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. "The Sacramento Police Department encourages any witnesses with information regarding this investigation to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357)," the department stated in a media release. They emphasized that callers have the option to remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the “P3 Tips” smartphone app.

The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is ongoing, as detectives seek to piece together the events that led to this fatal incident.
