THIS IS A DIRECT REPOST FROM THE SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT MEDIA RELEASE

On October 17, 2021, at approximately 9:10 p.m. Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 5500 block of 27th Avenue for a reported shooting that had just occurred.

When officers arrived, they located one adult male who had sustained at least one gunshot wound lying in the street. The male was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. Based on preliminary information the deceased male may have been involved in an attempted burglary of a residence in the area and was then shot by the homeowner.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators have responded to take over the investigation. Detectives will be conducting a neighborhood canvass for additional information and evidence. The circumstances that led up to the shooting are still under investigation and in order to protect the integrity of this investigation, there is no further information to release at this time.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
