THIS IS A DIRECT REPOST FROM THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’s OFFICE MEDIA RELEASE

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Monday July 27, 2020, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from the 8700 block of River Road regarding a vehicle that left the roadway and was partially submerged in the river.

A citizen, who saw the vehicle in the river, was able to help four young children and an adult male from the vehicle. There was an adult female still inside the vehicle in the driver’s seat when fire personnel and California Highway Patrol officers arrived. While rendering aid to the female, fire personnel discovered she had suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. No one else was injured.

The male who was helped from the vehicle was detained by officers.

Homicide detectives responded and began their investigation. They determined the male and female were in a domestic relationship and had children in common. Although the motive for the shooting is not yet known, detectives believe the male shot the female while she was driving, causing her to veer the vehicle into the river.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Mandiko Kwadzo of West Sacramento (see attached photo), was arrested by homicide detectives and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

The identity of the victim in this case will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after identification and notification of next of kin.
