Sacramento Police Help Locate Firearm, Possibly Used in Reno Homicide

Sacramento police officers assisted in locating and collecting a firearm today, allegedly used in a Reno homicide.

According to police radio traffic, Reno PD had taken a homicide suspect into custody after he was spotted driving a stolen vehicle near the Reno airport.

The original homicide happened in Reno.

The suspect told police he drove to Sacramento after the homicide and dumped the firearm used in the incident, said to be an AK-47 or similar, inside a duffel bag covered by cardboard, in a field being Alterra Way and Aimwell Avenue.

Police radio traffic further said the suspect allegedly stole a vehicle and then went back to Reno, which led to Saturday's apprehension.

Reno PD contacted Sacramento PD around 5 p.m. Saturday and asked officers to respond to the field, which is in the North Natomas area.

A helicopter from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search.

After 45 minutes, the helicopter directed officers on the ground to an item that caught their attention, which ended up being the duffel bag as described by the suspect.
