Sacramento Police Department detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a robbery that occurred on March 5, 2020 in the 900 block of S Street. The suspect in this incident has been identified and contacted. Detectives are working closely with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office to ensure that the incident is investigated fully.

On March 5,2020 at approximately 1:43 p.m. officers responded to the 900 block of S Street after a robbery was reported. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, a male adult, down in the parking lot. Officers performed CPR and the victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. During the late-night hours, the victim was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. Due to the status of the victim when he was transported, detectives responded to take over the investigation.

The preliminary investigation into the incident reveals that the suspect entered the business and attempted to steal merchandise from the store. The victim confronted the suspect over the theft, and a physical altercation ensued. During the incident the victim fell to the ground and was unresponsive. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

The suspect was identified by investigators and contacted in the evening hours. This investigation is ongoing, and detectives continue to investigate the circumstances regarding this robbery. When the investigation is complete the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office will review the case for prosecution.

UPDATE FROM SACPD ON THE SUSPECT'S STATUS

The suspect has been identified, and is no longer in our custody.  We are still reviewing evidence, and awaiting some more information before charges are filed in this case.  Once our investigation is finished we will turn it over for the District Attorney's office for review and filing charges.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
