Around 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, Sacramento police officers responded to the 5500 block of Cabrillo Way regarding a domestic violence incident. Officers contacted the victim, and determined that she had sustained a non-life-threatening injury from a knife during a domestic violence incident. Officers conducted an investigation and ultimately located the suspect in South Sacramento.

Officers attempted an enforcement stop on the vehicle, and a slow speed vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended in the unincorporated county on Mello Court. Officers observed the suspect exit the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect was holding a 13-year-old juvenile victim hostage, and was armed with a firearm. The suspect barricaded himself into a residence. The driver of the vehicle was detained and interviewed. The juvenile victim is known to the suspect.

The Sacramento Police Department SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) responded to the scene. The Sacramento County Sheriff SWAT team and CNT team responded as well.

Throughout the evening and overnight hours, the Sacramento Sheriff SWAT team along with CNT team attempted multiple contacts with the suspect, attempting to resolve the incident peacefully. Several hours into the night, multiple occupants who were inside the home when the suspect ran inside were able to evacuate from the residence.

Around 5 a.m., the Sacramento Police SWAT and CNT teams took over the incident, and continued make attempted contacts with the suspect. Around 8:30 a.m., the last two victims, including the original 13-year-old girl taken hostage, were able to safely escaped. While police are unable to confirm, reports say the suspect had fallen asleep, allowing the last two occupants an opprotunity to escape.

Throughout the morning and afternoon, the Sacramento Police SWAT and CNT teams continued their attempts to make contact with the suspect.

Around 3:15 p.m., after using breaking out windows of the home, using flash bangs, and reportedly using tear gas, SWAT team officers were able to successfully breach the home and take the suspect into custody. The suspect was taken to police headquarters for questioning and interrogation by Sacramento police detectives.

Further information is expected to be released by the Sacramento Police Department in the coming days, including the suspect's name and booking photograph.
