SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. – A search is underway for the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a 42-year-old man overnight.

Around 12:00 a.m. Sunday, officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a pedestrian down in the roadway in the 8400 block of Gerber Road, just east of Reese Road.

When officers arrived, they found a person lying unconscious on the right-hand side of the roadway on eastbound Gerber Road.

Paramedics from Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded and determined the person to be deceased.

CHP says the person was riding a bicycle eastbound on the right shoulder of Gerber Road, east of Reese Road, while pulling another bicycle along the side of him. An unknown vehicle was traveling on Gerber Road eastbound as well at an unknown speed in the right lane. The vehicle struck the bicyclist on the right shoulder. The bicyclist later succumbed to his injuries. The vehicle that struck the victim fled before officers arrived. Witnesses and parts from the vehicle located on scene narrowed the vehicle to a red Cadillac sedan, possibly a CTS model with damage to the right front including a broken headlight.

Anyone with information to this collision is urged to contact officer A. Bennett at the CHP South Sacramento area office, by calling (916) 681-2300.
