SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Police investigated a fatal hit-and-run collision early Sunday in North Sacramento.

Just before 12:30 Sunday morning, officers responded to the intersection of Rio Linda Blvd. and Las Palmas Ave. for a reported shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a victim lying in the roadway unresponsive. Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased on arrival.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the victim was not shot, but had been the victim of a hit-and-run vehicle collision. A search was started in the area for the suspect’s vehicle, but was unable to be located.

The Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene to begin their investigation. Based upon evidence found at the scene, investigators believe that the victim was in the roadway at the time the collision occurred.

The name of the victim will be released at a later time by the Sacramento County Coroner.

The department is seeking information about a vehicle that may have been involved in the collision. The vehicle is believed to be a white-colored pickup or SUV and will likely have front-end damage including a missing headlight.
