CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA – Police are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred late Thursday night in Citrus Heights.

Officers from the Citrus Heights Police Department were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Auburn Boulevard north of Twin Oaks Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a male pedestrian in the roadway with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Firefighters and paramedics arrived moments later and pronounced the subject as deceased.

The driver of the involved vehicle was contacted at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Neither alcohol nor speed appear to have been a factor.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was down in the roadway, for an unknown reason, prior to being struck by the vehicle. At the time of the collision, the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk.

The pedestrian was identified by the Sacramento County Coroner, but his identity is being withheld until notification of next of kin is made.

The Citrus Heights Police Department Traffic unit is investigating the collision, and asks anyone with information relating to the collision to please call 916-727-5500.
