ELK GROVE, CA – CHP officers are investigating an early morning crash on Interstate 5 south of Elk Grove that took the life of a 27-year-old male.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol say officers responded around 2:30 early Saturday morning to a report of a vehicle off the bridge near Interstate 5 and Lambert Road, south of Elk Grove.

When officers arrived on scene they located a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck on the roadway below the interstate with a male occupant driver deceased.

CHP says the truck was traveling at an unknown speed on southbound I-5 north of Lambert Road when for an unknown reason the truck veered from the fast lane to the slow lane then into the metal guardrail on the shoulder. The truck then went through the guardrail and landed on Lambert Road below the interstate where it came to rest.

The driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Alcohol and drugs have not been ruled out as a factor pending toxicology results.

The name of the deceased driver has not been released pending coroner’s release, but his age was released by CHP as 27-years-old.

This is a developing story. More details will be posted once available.
