Many neighborhoods celebrated “National Night Out” Tuesday night. In Oak Park we caught up with Cactus Ray (affectionately known as the Mayor of Oak Park) whom the community presented with a certificate of Outstanding Community Service.

SacPD stated in a press release, “On Tuesday, August 7, 2012, residents throughout Sacramento will join neighborhoods across the nation in celebrating the 29th Annual National Night Out.

Over 70 neighborhoods throughout the City of Sacramento are planning events such as block parties, BBQs, ice cream socials, and other neighborhood social activities. These events allow neighbors to get to know one another, so that together, they can fight to keep crime out of their neighborhoods.

Sacramento Police Officers, along with other City representatives, will be out visiting these neighborhood celebrations as a show of support for their efforts.

National Night Out is an event designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime fighting efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and illegal activity will not be tolerated.”
