NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. – A driver was arrested for driving under the influence after causing a three vehicle collision that killed one person.

At 9:30 Friday night, CHP and Metro Fire responded to the intersection of Elkhorn Boulevard and Watt Avenue for multiple reports of a collision.

When units arrived, they found a pickup truck that has crashed directly into the back of a sedan, which also crashed into another sedan in front of if. The sedan hit by the truck had major rear-end damage. Other vehicles were on scene which may have also been involved in the crash. Witnesses tell PSN they saw at least five vehicles involved.

An occupant of one of the vehicles, later identified as Viktor Gerez, 60, of Sacramento, was pronounced deceased by officials.

The driver of the truck was detained by CHP and given a field sobriety test which he performed poorly. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and transported to the Sacramento County Jail. A blood test is administered at the jail to confirm suspicion of DUI.

Elkhorn Boulevard near Watt Avenue was closed for a few hours after the crash while CHP investigated the collision.
