DETAILS PROVIDED BY THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’s OFFICE

On Monday, March 20, 2023, at approximately noon, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a deceased female at a homeless camp near Watt Avenue and Longview Drive. The location of the encampment is near a jurisdictional border between the city of Sacramento and the unincorporated area of Sacramento County. Thus, both the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Sacramento Police Officers arrived on the scene first, discovering the 60-year-old deceased female inside a tent. Sheriff’s Deputies and the Sacramento City Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly thereafter, when Fire Department personnel officially pronounced her deceased. Deputies determined the scene was within the jurisdiction of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, subsequently taking over the investigation and requested the coroner to respond.

Personnel from the Coroner’s Office arrived a short time later and conducted a cursory examination of the body. Upon doing so, they deemed the death suspicious and potentially not of natural or otherwise known causes. Sheriff’s Deputies requested detectives from the Homicide Bureau to respond.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators arrived, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence. No further information or suspect information is available at this time.
