CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA – Police are investigating the cause of a traffic collision early Sunday morning in Citrus Heights that caused serious injuries to a pedestrian.

Citrus Heights Police say that around 12:54 Sunday morning, officers responded to an injury collision at the intersection of Auburn Boulevard and Kanai Avenue. The collision involved a single vehicle colliding with a pedestrian. That pedestrian was provided with medical treatment on scene and then transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries.

Police arrived and started their investigation, closing down the roadway for approximately four hours. The driver of the single vehicle involved was contacted at the scene by officers and was cooperating with the investigation. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision. The preliminary cause of the investigation has revealed the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the Citrus Heights Police Traffic Unit. Police ask anyone who may have seen the collision, or who may have information relating to it, to call the CHPD Traffic Unit at (916) 727-5500.
