NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA – Sheriff’s detectives have closed their case in what was initially believed to be a shooting death of a teen in North Highlands on Sunday, but turned out to be a stabbing in self-defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheriff’s deputies responded Sunday to a report of a teen who had driven to a residence and said he was shot on the 6400 block of Channing Drive in North Highlands. Deputies arrived and found the teen, performed life-saving measures but the teen was ultimately declared deceased by medical personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, Sheriff’s press release stated that homicide detectives had concluded their investigation into Sunday’s death. Their investigation led them to finding the victim, identified as 19 year-old Kaveon Plummer-Lee as the suspect in a home invasion robbery attempt shortly before he arrived at the residence on Channing Drive. Detectives believe that Plummer-Lee was armed with a weapon at the time of the attempted robbery, and that the resident stabbed Plummer-Lee in a self-defense method. Plummer-Lee had initially told witnesses on Channing Drive that he had been shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheriff’s detectives have closed their case and forwarded their finding to the Sacramento County District Attorney, who will be responsible for any decisions regarding the filing of criminal charges associated with this incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
