VIDEO: Arson structure fire sends one victim to the hospital and kills family dog, Niantic Way, Sacramento

Sacramento police officers responded to reports of an alarm call at a home on the 1800 block of Niantic Way, near 68th Avenue. While responding, officers received additional reports of someone setting the home on fire. The callers reported the suspect was leaving the area.

Firefighters and officers arrived and found heavy fire showing from the home. Crews were able to get the fire quickly contained within a matter of minutes. One victim was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Despite life-saving efforts by firefighters, one house pet died as a result of the fire.

Officers have detained the suspect on the scene. It's unclear why the suspect set the fire at this time.

Burglary- Arrest
1800 block of Niantic Way at 0100 hours.

Officers responded to reports of a burglary. During the burglary it was also reported that a fire had started at the house. Upon arrival officers found that the suspect was still on scene. The suspect was detained without incident. Fire department Arson investigator is investigating the fire. The suspect was arrested for burglary charges.

Hailey, Donald (DOB: 1/11/66, Male)

On 01/02/20 at approximately 1:00 am, the Sacramento Fire Department and the Sacramento Police Department responded to a fire alarm sounding at a single-family dwelling located on the 1800 block of Niantic Way. It was also reported there was a possible break-in as a male subject was seen forcing entry into the structure. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a working residential structure fire. Fire crews gained entry into the structure and rescued an elderly non-ambulatory male adult victim from the structure. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital.

SFD Fire arson investigators conducted a through fire origin and cause investigation. Investigators determine the fire was deliberately set. Hailey was charged with 451(a) PC Arson Causing Great Bodily Injury.
