Officers responded to an apartment complex in the 700 block of H Street early Thursday morning, to check on the welfare of man but wound up calling the bomb squad in.

The family members of a Pacific Islander man contacted the Sacramento Police Department early Thursday morning, concerned for his well being said Lieutenant Dennis Joy, Sacramento Police Department. When officers arrived, the man was not in his apartment. When officers made entry they saw a bucket with wires wrapped around it and wires going to a door knob Joy said. The officers backed out of the apartment and the bomb squad was dispatched.

The apartments next to, above and below his apartment were evacuated; 7th Street was closed between G and H Streets and a portion of H Street was closed.

When the bomb squad arrived they used a robot to check the suspicious item and found it only to be a buck of trash with some wires wrapped around, in it and around a doorknob in the apartment.

Just as officers and the bomb squad were wrapping up their operation and declared the area safe, the subject came walking down the sidewalk and officers spotted him. He was detained without incident, was compliant with officers and was being evaluated Joy said.
