SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — A fatal hit-and-run collision on North B Street and Dos Rios Street in Sacramento has resulted in the death of a female pedestrian and the arrest of a local man for felony hit-and-run and DUI.
At approximately 7:55 p.m. on February 19, officers with the Sacramento Police Department responded to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female in the roadway, who was later pronounced deceased at the scene by personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department.
"The vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene prior to police arrival," said a spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department.
Shortly after the incident, a motorcycle officer working downtown stopped a vehicle matching the description of the one that fled from the scene near 5th Street and I Street. Investigators from the Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) and Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) were called in to take over the investigation.
"The driver of the vehicle that was stopped was arrested," police said. "62-year-old Steve Read, of Sacramento, was transported and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for charges related to felony hit-and-run resulting in death and driving under the influence."
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
The Sacramento Police Department is urging any witnesses with information about the collision to come forward. "We encourage anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357)," the department stated. "Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000."
