SACRAMENTO, CA (PSN) — A suspect was arrested early on February 14 after fleeing from a vehicle and discarding a firearm in a foot pursuit, according to the Sacramento Police Department (SacPD).
At approximately 0051 hours, officers attempted to contact individuals inside a vehicle near Northview Drive and W. El Camino Avenue. The occupants, however, fled the vehicle on foot. During the pursuit, one of the suspects discarded a firearm, which was later recovered by officers. The firearm was found to be loaded and reported stolen.
SacPD quickly set up a perimeter and called in assistance from their Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and K-9 units. "With the help of K9 Hoss, a suspect was quickly apprehended and arrested on multiple charges," the department said in a statement.
The recovered firearms included the one discarded during the chase and another found inside the vehicle. "Great work by our North Area patrol officers and K9 unit in removing more illegal firearms from our community," SacPD shared in a post on social media.
The arrest underscores the department’s commitment to addressing illegal firearms in the community and highlights the teamwork involved in apprehending suspects swiftly.
