Sacramento, CA (PSN) — A disturbance at the Embassy Suites escalated into a standoff after midnight when an individual armed with a knife barricaded himself inside a hotel room, according to Sacramento Police Department’s PIO, Sergeant Dan Wiseman.

Responding to a call about the disturbance, officers faced a man who brandished a knife at security personnel before retreating to a second-story room. The Sacramento PD has deployed its SWAT and crisis negotiation teams to the scene, aiming for a peaceful resolution.

“We’re just trying to get some dialog with the individual and find out how we can help,” stated Sergeant Wiseman, highlighting the department's cautious approach to managing the situation.

The standoff has led to the mobilization of substantial police resources, including an EOD team and various tactical equipment, though the presence of an armored vehicle was unconfirmed by the PIO at the time of the interview. “Our goal is to be prepared with all of our tools, just in case that’s needed,” Wiseman added, expressing hope for a swift and safe conclusion to the incident.

As negotiations continue, the area around Embassy Suites remains secured, with law enforcement urging the public to avoid the vicinity until further notice.
