SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a fatal collision between a bus and a pedestrian that occurred earlier Monday. Officers responded to the scene near Club Center and Banfield Drive shortly after 8:30 a.m. following reports of the incident. Upon arrival, they found an adult male in his 60s who was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Sadly, due to the fatality this morning, our Major Collision Investigation unit responded to the scene and they'll be taking over the investigation," said the police spokesperson at a press conference. Crime scene investigators were also present to process the area and interview witnesses.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, as the coroner's office is responsible for notifying the next of kin. "Based on the fatality and the circumstances, any witnesses in the community are encouraged to call in if they saw or might know additional information regarding what happened," the spokesperson added. The driver of the bus involved in the collision is cooperating with the investigation. "It was simply RT bus versus the pedestrian on foot," the spokesperson explained. At this time, there is no indication of another vehicle being involved in the collision.
As the investigation remains ongoing, police are advising pedestrians and drivers alike to be cautious. "Just try to be cognizant of your surroundings," the spokesperson said, reminding both parties to be aware of their actions, especially in high-traffic areas.
The road near Club Center and Banfield Drive was expected to remain closed for several hours as the investigation continues. Police had advised motorists to find alternate routes.
