SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — Sacramento County Sheriff's Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) Detectives, along with the Sheriff's SED (SWAT) Deputies, successfully apprehended an armed juvenile gang member following a high-speed pursuit last night. The incident unfolded as detectives developed intelligence on a group of gang members driving through rival gang territories, linked to multiple recent shootings and homicides in the area.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, the detectives identified the suspects' vehicle, which had been reported stolen in a carjacking where firearms were used. Upon locating the vehicle, deputies attempted a vehicle stop, but the suspects immediately fled at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit ended at an apartment complex associated with the gang, where multiple juvenile gang members fled the vehicle on foot. One juvenile was arrested after deputies discovered two loaded handguns and two unserialized AR-15-style pistols with high-capacity magazines inside the vehicle. The arrested juvenile, who had been previously apprehended by GSU detectives earlier this year for multiple firearms possession charges, was on searchable juvenile probation and had two unrelated felony arrest warrants.
"The suspects were en route to confront rival gang members in a nearby neighborhood," the Sheriff's Office stated. "Those gang members were also armed and anticipating the arrival of the armed vehicle, which would have predictably resulted in a major gunfight amid unsuspecting and uninvolved residents."
The arrested juvenile was transported and booked into Juvenile Hall. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to prevent further violence between the rival gangs.
