Sacramento, CA – A tragic single-vehicle collision in Sacramento on May 31, 2023, has resulted in the death of three individuals, including a 25-year-old female adult and two children. The Sacramento Police Department's Major Collision Investigations Unit is currently investigating the incident, with speed believed to be a contributing factor.

The incident occurred shortly after 8:15 p.m. on the 900 Block of San Juan Road when the vehicle reportedly lost control and crashed into a tree. Witnesses at the scene immediately rushed to aid the occupants, pulling them out of the smoking sedan. Sacramento Police Department patrol officers swiftly arrived and discovered a total of eleven victims, including two adult females and nine juveniles aged 3 to 8, with serious or critical injuries.

Efforts to save the injured victims were initiated promptly, with officers and personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department performing life-saving measures. Unfortunately, despite their diligent efforts, a 25-year-old female adult was pronounced deceased at the scene by Sacramento Fire Department personnel. Subsequently, one adult victim and nine juvenile victims were transported by Sacramento Fire personnel to multiple area hospitals for further medical attention.

Following the fatality, detectives from the Sacramento Police Department's Major Collision Investigations Unit assumed control of the investigation. Thorough canvassing of the area for evidence, witnesses, and additional information was conducted by detectives and crime scene investigators. The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings suggest that speed played a role in the collision.

In addition to the deceased female found at the scene, two juveniles, a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old, succumbed to their injuries after being taken to an area hospital. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will release the identities of the deceased victims once their next of kin have been notified.
