On August 22, 2022 shortly after 6 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 400 block of N 16th Street for a robbery in which the suspect was reported to be armed with a firearm. During the robbery, an individual on scene confronted the suspect, who then shot that individual. After the shooting, the suspect fled and continued shooting. Responding officers heard the gunshots in the area and located the suspect as he was attempting to flee. Those officers were able to safely detain the suspect and a firearm was recovered at the scene. Additional officers provided emergency medical aid to the shooting victim, a male adult, who was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding personnel from the fire department.

Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. The investigation is in its early stages and the exact circumstances of what occurred remain under investigation, however, this is believed to be an isolated incident. There are not believed to be any other suspects outstanding.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for a complaint of shortness of breath. After being medically cleared, the suspect will be booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for charges related to this incident.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
