POLICE: One Dead, One Hospitalized After Shootout | Citrus Heights

DETAILS FROM THE CITRUS HEIGHTS POLICE DEPARTMENT

On May 23, 2022, at approximately 10:55 PM, the Citrus Heights Police Department received numerous 911 calls regarding reports of shots fired in the area of 6000 block of Birdcage Street in the City of Citrus Heights.

CHPD officers quickly arrived and located a male subject suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the walkway of an apartment complex. The 20-year-old male subject was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Officers then located an additional male subject with multiple gunshot wounds inside a nearby apartment. That 20-year-old subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 6000 block of Birdcage Lane was closed off for several hours while Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene.

CHPD Detectives are actively investigating the homicide. At this time, investigators believe this is not a random act; the parties involved likely knew each other. Preliminary information revealed that both subjects appeared to be shooting at each other.
