The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff's office have confirmed that a three-year-old child is deceased in an Arcade-Arcade 4-Plex apartment fire in Sacramento County.

According to reports, the three-year-old and a five-year-old were unattended and a lighter was involved. The investigation is still in it's very early stages.

Fire crews responded to reports of a fire that had broke out at a home in the 700 block Carro Drive.

Initial arriving fire crews found heavy fire from the building and requested additional resources to the scene. A second alarm was struck bringing additional resources and manpower.

According to radio traffic, a child was trapped inside the home when crews arrived.

An HVAC worker in the area told PSN that he and another person attempted to rescue the child from a back bedroom, but the smoke and fire were too intense and they had to back out.

One other person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Investigators and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s office are on scene investigating.
