DETAILS FROM THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’s OFFICE

At 8:51 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from a citizen at the intersection of Orange Grove Avenue and Auburn Boulevard stating that an adult male subject had been shot after an apparent “Road Rage" incident.

Witnesses at the scene stated the driver of Vehicle 1 intentionally drove into Vehicle 2. The driver of Vehicle 1, a 46-year-old male, got out of his car and approached the driver of Vehicle 2, a 24-year- old male, both residents of Sacramento County.

Surveillance footage supports multiple witness statements that Driver 1 stopped his vehicle in the roadway and approached Driver 2 who was seated inside Vehicle 2. Witnesses say Driver 1 reached inside Vehicle 2 and was shot one time in the torso by Driver 2.

Deputies arrived and located a male victim, who was later determined to be in possession of a knife, in the roadway next to a vehicle. Deputies rendered first aid until Metro Fire arrived on scene to transport the victim to the hospital where he died hours later. Driver 2 remained on scene and was cooperative with deputies. Detectives later interviewed Driver 2 and released him without charges. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office will confer with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office regarding evidence and charging.

No information is available on either driver. No other information is available at this time.

Detectives are asking anyone with information relating to this incident, to please contact the Sheriff’s Office at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP. Tip information may also be left anonymously at www.sacsheriff.com or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
