DETAILS FORM THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’s OFFICE

At approximately 5:19 a.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2022, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from Sacramento City Fire requesting an assist on a medical call for a 4-year-old unresponsive female. Fire transported the victim to a local area hospital from the 3900 block of 42nd Avenue in South Sacramento. A physician declared the child deceased at the medical center a short time later.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Central Patrol Deputies and Child Abuse Detectives arrived at the residence to speak with La Kreesha Frederick, who stated she was friends with the victim’s biological mother. While not having legal custody of the victim, Frederick had been watching the child at the request of her friend, since October 2021.

Investigators photographed the scene, collected physical and video evidence and interviewed witnesses.

An arrest warrant was issued for La Kreesha Frederick (28). On Thursday, February 24, 2022, Frederick was located and taken into custody by Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau Detectives. Frederick was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail and booked on one count of murder (PC 187 and PC 273AB) and one count of Assault Resulting in Death of Child Under 8 Years. She is being held on $1,000,000 bail. Frederick will appear in court on Monday, February 28, 2022, in Department 62, to answer for the charges. There is no further information available at this time.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating the cause and manner of death and will issue a preliminary finding.
