UPDATE FROM THE SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT

Homicide detectives worked diligently and were able to identify, locate, and arrest a suspect in this homicide. On January 6, 2022, 31-year-old Danthony Chaney was arrested on a homicide charge in Reno, Nevada with assistance from local regional law enforcement agencies. Chaney was booked into a custodial facility in Nevada and will be transported back to Sacramento.

This investigation remains active however detectives believe that there are no outstanding suspects related to this incident. Anybody with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the police department.

DETAILS FROM THE SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT

Homicide Investigation – 5900 Block of South Land Park Drive
On January 2, 2022 shortly after 7:30 p.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 5900 block of South Land Park Dr. regarding a report that a subject had been shot. Upon arrival on scene, officers located one victim, a male adult, who sustained at least one gunshot wound. Officers attempted life-saving measures however the victim was eventually pronounced deceased at the scene by responding personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department.

Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation and will be conducting a thorough canvass of the area for evidence and witnesses. This investigation is in its early stages and information is limited. The circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation and there is no suspect information to provide at this time.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
