On August 29, 2021, just after 3 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 400 block of Jefferson Avenue regarding a report that two victims had been shot. Upon arrival on scene, officers located two victims who sustained gunshot wounds, one adult female and a 17-year-old male. The female was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive. The male was transported to a hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries a few days later.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation. Detectives worked quickly and were able to identify the suspect in this shooting. On September 1, 35-year-old Gilbert Villalobos was arrested for homicide charges and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. It is believed that Villalobos and the victims were known to each other. This investigation remains ongoing, and the motive is still under investigation.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
