THIS IS A DIRECT REPOST FROM THE SACRAMENTO SHERIFF’s OFFICE MEDIA RELEASE

At approximately 4:26 p.m. on August 28, 2021, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from the 9300 block of Appalachian Drive in Sacramento County regarding someone being shot.

Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. While rendering aid to the victim, the suspect of the shooting began firing his weapon at deputies. Deputies were not hit and were able to make a tactical retreat without firing their weapons while evacuating the victim away from the scene. The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside of the residence and refused to come out. The Sacramento Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED), Critical Incident Negotiators (CINT) and several allied agencies from throughout the region responded and took over the scene. Negotiators spent several 3+ hours talking to the suspect until he peacefully surrendered.

Zachary Taylor Sheeran (42) was taken into custody on felony charges. He will be medically evaluated and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Crime Scene Investigators will collect evidence as detectives investigate this incident and the circumstances leading up to it. No further arrests are anticipated. No additional information is available at this time.
