Over the past years, we have had neighbors in our communities lose their homes and all they own on the night of July 4th or very early the morning of the 5th; at the hands of those who have improperly disposed of “Safe and Sane” fireworks or those who insist on utilizing illegal fireworks with no regard for their neighbors and community.

The fire and law enforcement agencies become inundated with calls, far too numerous to handle, bogging down the 9-1-1 system, delaying aid to those who are in the midst of a true emergency.

Both the City and County of Sacramento have established effective systems for reporting illegal use of fireworks:

How to report illegal fireworks in the City of Sacramento

Sacramento, Calif. (July 1, 2021) – Illegal fireworks can be a disaster for residents across the city. Here are the do’s and don’ts for reporting illegal fireworks:

DO- Call 916-808-3473 (FIRE) If your call is not answered, leave a message and a dispatcher will quickly relay that info to field personnel.

DO- Use a free online reporting smart-phone app called “Nail-em,” which is monitored by the Sacramento Fire Department

DO NOT- Call 911 to report illegal fireworks unless someone is injured or there is a fire.

DO NOT- Call Sacramento Police Departments' non-emergency number to report illegal fireworks. Doing so will only delay the information getting to the appropriate call taker.
