UPDATE 5:40 p.m.: Police have provided an update, that there were no signs of foul play and the death does not appear to be suspicious.

Police are investigating after a body was found in an Elk Grove park Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to the park around 1:50 p.m. to conduct a welfare check on an adult male lying under a pile of sleeping bags.

When officers arrived, they found the victim deceased. The area around the victim was immediately closed off to conduct a death investigation.

Detectives, forensic investigators, and the Coroner all responded as part of the investigation.

At this time, the cause of the death has not been released, nor has the identity of the victim.
