Around 3 a.m. Sunday, officers from the Sacramento Police Department responded to the intersection of Fruitridge Road and Nona Way for a reported vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Callers reported the pedestrian was still down in the roadway.

VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED

Officers and paramedics arrived and declared the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol later responded and took over the investigation, as the portion of Fruitridge Road where the collision occurred is handled by CHP.

The vehicle that hit the pedestrian sustained significant damage and remained at the scene. The driver was cooperative with officers and was later released after giving their statement. The driver's vehicle was impounded as evidence, which is standard protocol.

Fruitridge Road was closed in both directions between 44th St and Ethel Way during the investigation.
