On Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at approximately 3:55 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the intersection of X street and 23rd Street regarding a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian. Officers arrived on scene and located a male adult who was severely injured. The involved vehicle had fled the scene. Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived, and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. While at the hospital, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Due to the fatality, the Sacramento Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to take over the investigation.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe that the pedestrian was crossing X Street near or at the intersection of 23rd Street. The unidentified vehicle was traveling eastbound on X Street and struck the pedestrian as he was crossing X Street. The investigation is ongoing and active. Detectives are working to identify a suspect vehicle and currently do not have any description to release.

The pedestrian is a male adult. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the pedestrian once next of kin have been notified.
