At 1:32 AM Sunday, Sacramento firefighters and CHP officers were dispatched to reports of a multi-vehicle accident on northbound Highway 99 at the 5th Avenue overcrossing.

When units arrived, they found seven vehicles with major damage spread across all northbound lanes and for hundreds of feet.

Units checked on the vehicle occupants for any injuries. At least three people were transported to the hospital. All other occupants either declined medical aid, or were uninjured.

All northbound lanes were shut down for approximately one hour until. CHP officers were able to get the number one lane clear, at which point traffic was able to start moving. The rest of the lanes were cleared by 4:00 AM.
