THIS IS A DIRECT PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SACRAMENTO POLICE DEPARTMENT
On February 25, 2019, at approximately 9:19 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a report regarding an Instagram account that had posted multiple school threats. The posts included photos which directly stated that the user planned on either shooting up or detonating explosives at multiple high schools in the City of Sacramento.
Patrol officers, school resource officers, detectives and dispatchers conducted follow-up on no less than 100 calls for service related to this viral internet post. On February 26, 2019, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers detained a person of interest in this case. After additional follow-up, this person of interest was arrested for terrorist threats related to this incident. The suspect is a male juvenile and his identity will not be released.
The Sacramento Police Department works closely with the schools within the City of Sacramento and is committed to the safety of our children. At this time, the investigation remains active. Detectives have determined that there is no credible threat based on this social media post.
Students, parents, and community members who suspect or have information regarding potential school violence are asked to report that information to the Sacramento Police Department immediately. Reports can be made to our Communication Center at (916) 808-5471, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We will continue to investigate all reports of threats thoroughly and appropriately.
