Around 11:50 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, the California Highway Patrol received reports of a solo-vehicle crash into a light pole at the intersection of Power Inn Road and Auberry Drive in south Sacramento County.

Firefighters from Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District were the first to arrive at the scene. They reported a single SUV that was wrapped around a traffic light pole with major damage to the entire vehicle. Four occupants were trapped inside. Crews immediately called for additional equipment to respond, and started the extrication process.

Despite all efforts, two of the four occupants were pronounced deceased on arrival. The other two occupants were successfully extricated from the vehicle and were transported by ground ambulance to Kaiser Permanente's South Sacramento Medical Center with major injuries.

The identities of the two victims who died will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office once notifications have been made to next-of-kin.

Northbound Power Inn Road just north of the Auberry Drive intersection was closed during the investigation.
