An investigation is underway after a person was shot outside a home in South Sacramento.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. on the 5000 block of Bassett Way. That's in the Valley Hi/North Laguna neighborhood, near Calvine Road and Franklin Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, described only as a man in his twenties, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. His injuries are being described as "serious" by the police department.

Homicide detectives have been called out to investigate the case due to the circumstances, but at this time, the victim is still alive.
