Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sacramento police officers responded to the 3500 block of San Jose Way after callers reported there was disturbance occurring outside between two neighbors.

While responding, officers were notified by the ShotSpotter system of gunfire detected on the same street. It was later determined that one of the neighbors went inside his home and grabbed a gun and then went back outside and fired two rounds into the air.

When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact at the home and ask for the occupants to exit. The occupants refused, causing officers to establish a perimeter.

Because of the gunshots being fired and not knowing what was inside the home, SWAT officers and crisis negotiation trained officers responded. Nearby homes were also evacuated during the standoff.

After several hours, police say two people, an older man and an older woman, were safely and without injury, taken into custody from inside the home.
