SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSNews.us) – A homicide investigation is underway after a person was shot and killed in Sacramento overnight.

Around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sacramento police officers responded to the intersection of San Carlos Way and 8th Avenue for reports of gunshots heard in the area.

After arriving in the area, officers were contacted by a citizen who advised of a gunshot victim nearby. The officers located the adult male victim near the corner of San Carlos Way and 8th Avenue. The victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers provided first aid until they were relieved by paramedics from the Sacramento Fire Department. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced deceased at the hospital several hours later.

At this time, the police department says there is no indication this incident is gang-related. The motive for the shooting is unknown and detectives have not identified a suspect at this time.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.
