ELK GROVE, Calif. Police investigated shots fired into a home and a car on an Elk Grove street.

Around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, Elk Grove police officers responded to the 9300 block of Miko Circle for calls of shots fired in the area.

When officers arrived, they determined an unknown suspect or suspects had discharged a handgun. An occupied residence and a vehicle were struck by bullets.

While the four suspects fled on foot, an occupant exited his residence, which was initially struck by bullets, then fired a handgun at the fleeing suspects. The occupant was identified by the Elk Grove Police Department as 19-year-old Dayshawn Barker of Elk Grove.

As a result of Barker’s actions, a secondary vehicle and occupied residence were struck by bullets. Barker was detained and the handgun used by Barker was located. A record check revealed that the weapon Barker had fired had been reported stolen. Barker was arrested then transported to the main jail.

No injuries were reported in either shooting.

The police department has declined to release Barker’s booking photo due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
