SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Firefighters extinguished a grass fire that burned in a Sacramento County field.

Just after 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to reports of a grass fire near the intersection of Bradshaw Road and Vintage Park Drive.

When crews arrived, they found an empty field burning northwest of the intersection. Due to some terrain difficulties, access to the fire was delayed while crews found a way to the field. The fire was reported to be burning towards a barn and a home, but firefighters were able to prevent the fire from nearing the residence. After 40 minutes, officials reported they had a containment line around the fire.

A fire engine from Cosumnes Fire Department assisted in the firefight. Metro Fire’s “Copter 1” helicopter arrived to the fire and provided aerial support in moving crews around. The helicopter was not able to make water drops due to nightfall arriving and unsafe conditions for collecting water. Metro Fire’s “Dozer 1” bulldozer also arrived to the scene, but due to the fire burning in vernal pools, the bulldozer was unable to be used.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
