CHP Investigates Fatal I-5 Crash Near Downtown

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – An investigation is underway into a fatal crash on Interstate 5.

Around 5:25 a.m. Saturday, California Highway Patrol officers responded to multiple reports of a vehicle that crashed into a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 5 north of J Street. Callers were reporting on the vehicles started to catch on fire.

When officers arrived, they found the semi-truck and vehicle fully-engulfed. According to the CHP Traffic Information Page, otherwise known as CHP CAD, both the semi-truck and vehicle had at least one occupant inside when officers arrived. Also according to CHP CAD, at least one caller reported seeing the vehicle enter the freeway the wrong way from J Street which may played a part in the crash.

Details are limited, but we do know there is at least one fatality. It was not immediately known from which or both vehicles the death(s) occurred.
